Abstract
[Spanish abstract]El presente trabajo tiene por objetivo exponer los fundamentos éticos y tecnológicos que caracterizan al movimiento del software libre, así como su cercana relación que tiene con el mundo de la gestión bibliotecaria y de la información. También se presentan algunas de las principales herramientas libres que existen para la administración de bibliotecas, al tiempo que se muestran los alcances y posibilidades que éstas y otras herramientas poseen para la creación de sistemas de información a bajo costo y repositorios documentales acordes con el movimiento mundial de Open Access.[English abstract]This paper aims to expose the fundamentals ethical and technological developments that characterize the movement of FOSS, as well as its close relationship with the world of library management and information. Also presents some key free tools that exist to manage libraries, while alsoshow the scope and possibilities that these and other tools possess for building systems low-cost information repositories and documentaries chords with the worldwide movement to Open Access.
